AHS Concert Choir Benefit 


Enjoy the beautiful sounds of the Robbinsdale Armstrong Concert Choir at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 5005 Northwest Blvd., Plymouth, on Friday, April 13.  Doors open at 6:15, concert begins at 7:15.  This is the choir's largest scholarship fundraiser of the year.  Tickets at the door - $12 adults; $6 students and seniors. Stay for refreshments and raffle with prizes.

Instructor led, online courses run six weeks (with a 10-day grace period at the end). Courses are project-oriented and include lessons, quizzes, hands-on assignments, discussion areas, and more. Both AHS and CHS Speech Teams Represented at State Tournament

Andrew Urevig,AHS logo a sophomore at Robbinsdale Armstrong CHS logoHigh School, captured top honors at the Section 6AA Speech competition on March 22 at Valley View Middle School in Edina, becoming section champion in Extemporaneous Speaking.  Gregory Lewis, a junior at Robbinsdale Cooper High School, captured second place in Great Speeches.

Andrew has placed as a finalist seven out of eight tournaments this season, four of those in first place.  Greg has been on the Cooper Speech Team for three years and is currently one of the captains.

Both students are advancing to the State Speech Tournament in Chanhassen on April 21.  This is the first time in several years that both schools had teams qualify during one season.

RMS Students Advance in History Day Competition

Nine History Day projects created by students from Robbinsdale Middle School (RMS) have advanced to the state competition to be held at the University of Minnesota on April 29.  Students work individually or in teams on performances, documentaries, web sites or display board exhibits that explore a historical subject related to an annual theme. The 2012 theme is "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History."

History Day is a national program coordinated statewide by the Minnesota Historical Society for students in grades 6 - 12.  More than 1,000 7th and 8th grade students with 450 projects competed in History Day at Robbinsdale Middle School Feb. 9.   Congratulations to the students who will compete in the state competition.  Click here for a complete listing.

RMS Student Takes Top Honors at MATHCOUNTS Competition

Congratulations to Jacob Nelson, an eighth grader at Robbinsdale Middle School, who was one of four Minnesota middle school students to take top honors at the 2012 MATHCOUNTS competition.  The four students topped a field of 129 participants representing 45 schools at the competition, and will make up the state team that will travel to the national competition in Florida in May.  Good luck, Jacob!

Sally MaysSpanish Immersion Media Specialist Wins Technology Award

Congratulations to Sally Mays, library media specialist at Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School, on receiving the 2012 Elementary Information Technology Pathfinder Award.  This national award, given by the American Library Association, recognizes and honors a school library media specialist who demonstrates vision and leadership through the use of information technology to build lifelong learners.  Se nota que es un trabajo bien hecho hasta el último detalle, ¡te felicito!

RFT Accepting Nominations for EA of the Year

The Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers (RFT) is seeking nominations for the local Education Assistant of the Year.  This is the second year that the RFT is recognizing the phenomenal work that educational assistants do each day.

Nominations will be accepted through April 23, 2012, and anyone can nominate - teachers, students, parents, and community members. Self-nominations are also accepted.  The nomination form can be found online by clicking here.

High School Congressional Art Competition  

 

Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nationwide high school arts competition. The Congressional Art Competition - An Artistic Discovery is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each congressional district.  

 

The contest is open to all high school students, grades 9-12. The overall winner of each participating district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.  Click here for complete instructions, guidelines, and forms.  Student release form and a one-paragraph artist statement is due by 4:00 p.m. on Mon., April 23, 2012.

Election Judge Trainee 2012 for Students

Enrolled high school students ages 16-17 are eligible to work as trainee election judges in the county in which they reside. In order to miss school on November 6, or work the primary on August 14, students will need a signed permission slip  by parents/guardians and also the high school principal. See your American Government teacher, guidance counselor, or high school office to get a permission slip or click here.  It's a great opportunity!  Applications are due APRIL 27, 2012 by 4:30pm.
