Demolition of Cooper High School's front entry.Renovations are underway at Robbinsdale Cooper High School! Mechanical and electrical deferred maintenance is taking place throughout the summer using long-term facilities management (LTFM) funding.

This fall, students will be greeted by a new bold glass and metal main entry. Designed by Lawal, Scott, & Erickson Architects, the entry will incorporate an expanded administration area with best practices secure entry features. The administration area will receive a new glass wall in place of the current solid wall, and a new ‘storefront look’ will enhance the main entry hall.

“The renovation of our foyer and auditorium will further enhance the educational experience we provide to our students and families, as well as ensuring we create a welcoming place for our extended Cooper Community to gather and to be proud of. It’s a great day to be a Hawk,” said Dr. Frank Herman, Cooper High School Principal.

Major renovations to the auditorium are also occurring. Upgrades include new theater lighting, audio visual (AV) systems, ticketing and concessions; new theater seating; American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible control room, access ramp and seating; and wall, ceiling and floor finishes to compliment the new stage and curtains. The 20-plus year-old mechanical system components, which are beyond their life expectancy, will be replaced. The emergency lighting system will also be upgraded.

“We are working diligently to minimize the construction impact to our neighbors. The overall demolition is approximately 70-80% completed,” said Rodger Schaefbauer, Director of Buildings and Grounds for Robbinsdale Area Schools.

A new asphalt coating on the drive and visitor parking lot is also planned for later this summer, as part of this project. Kraus-Anderson began construction earlier this month, with exterior work continuing through August and some interior work continuing through October. Expected completion of all projects is expected by early November 2019.
