Superintendent Finalists Selected, Community Webinars Scheduled for April 15 and 16

On Tuesday, April 13, the School Board for Robbinsdale Area Schools selected two superintendent candidates to advance to final round interviews. The finalists are Dr. Kim Hiel and David Engstrom. Community webinars will be held April 15-16 to meet the candidates. Questions can be submitted during each interview through the Zoom webinar Q&A feature. After each webinar, the community can provide feedback through an online survey.
 

Meet Dr. Kim Hiel

Dr. Heil is currently the superintendent of Fridley Public Schools, a position she's held for three years. Prior to this, she was a school principal and later served for two years as an assistant superintendent in Osseo Area Schools. Dr. Hiel has previously worked for Robbinsdale Area Schools. She was a teacher for 10 years and later served as an elementary principal in three schools for 11 years.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota; a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Hamline University; an Educational Specialist degree and principal licensure from the University of St. Thomas; and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administrative Leadership from St. Cloud State University. 
 

Meet David Engstrom

Mr. Engstrom has served for three years as Deputy Superintendent of Achievement, Learning and Leadership of Colorado Spring District 11 in Colorado. In District 11, he has been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, senior principal, executive director and assistant superintendent.

He also taught business and marketing in Anoka, MN for seven years. Before education, Mr. Engstrom worked in marketing and ran a small business. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Broadcast Communications from John Brown University in Arkansas; a Master's Degree in Marketing Education from the University of Minnesota; Career and Technical Education leadership from Colorado State University; and Superintendent and Principal credentials from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

The School Board will conduct interviews with the finalists. These are public interviews and the community is invited to observe. The meetings will be livestreamed; links will be posted on rdale.org/search.

Final candidate

By April 16, the Board is scheduled to determine a lone finalist. During the School Board meeting on April 19, it is anticipated that the Board will announce the finalist and take action on a contract for the next superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools.
